Ghostly Dogs (Ghost 8)

Once upon a time, in a small town nestled in the mountains, there was a legend of a ghostly pack of dogs. The townsfolk whispered that these dogs would appear on the darkest of nights, their eyes glowing with an otherworldly light.

Most people didn't believe in the legend, but some swore they had seen the pack running through the streets, their barks echoing through the night. One woman claimed that the dogs had saved her from a mugger, while another man swore they had led him to safety during a blizzard.

But despite the tales of their heroism, most people were still wary of the ghost dogs. They seemed to appear and disappear at will, and there was no telling what they might do.

One night, a young boy named Sam was walking home from a friend's house when he heard a rustling in the bushes. He looked up just in time to see the ghost dogs emerge from the darkness. Their eyes glowed like hot coals, and their fur stood on end.

Sam froze, unsure of what to do. The dogs approached him, their barks low and menacing. He closed his eyes, waiting for the worst.

But then, something strange happened. One of the dogs nuzzled his hand, and the others followed suit. They seemed almost friendly, and Sam realized that they weren't there to harm him.

Instead, the dogs led him through the winding streets of the town, their barks echoing through the night. They brought him to a small cottage on the outskirts of town, and then vanished into the darkness.

Sam knocked on the door, and an old woman answered. She had tears in her eyes when she saw him, and she embraced him tightly.

"I thought I'd never see you again," she said, "I've been waiting for someone to find me."

It turned out that the old woman had been stranded in the cottage for days, with no food or water. She had almost given up hope when the ghost dogs appeared, barking at her door until she let them in. They had brought her scraps of food and water from the nearby creek, and had kept her company until Sam arrived.

From that day on, the legend of the ghost dogs took on a new meaning in the town. They were no longer feared, but revered for their kindness and bravery. And although no one ever saw them again, their legacy lived on in the hearts of the townsfolk for generations to come.
