TODAY'S 5 QUICK ENGLISH TIPS
2 November 2026
Want to speak and write English more confidently? Here are five useful lessons to improve your everyday English!

GRAMMAR CORNER: MUCH vs. MANY
Both words refer to quantity, but they are used with different types of nouns.

MUCH – Used with uncountable nouns.

MANY – Used with countable plural nouns.

How much water do you drink every day?

How many books do you have?

How much students are there in your class?

How many students are there in your class?

Remember: Much = Uncountable | Many = Countable.

VOCABULARY BOOSTER: LOOK vs. SEE vs. WATCH
Although these three verbs are related to vision, they have different meanings.

LOOK – To direct your eyes towards something intentionally.
Example: Look at that beautiful painting\!

SEE – To notice something with your eyes.
Example: I can see a bird in the tree.

WATCH – To look at something for a period of time, especially when it moves or changes.
Example: We watched a football match last night.

Quick tip: Look = Direct your eyes | See = Notice | Watch = Observe over time.

COMMON MISTAKE: DISCUSS vs. DISCUSS ABOUT
Many English learners mistakenly use "about" after the verb "discuss".

We discussed about the problem.

We discussed the problem.

Let's discuss about the matter.

Let's discuss the matter.

Remember: The verb "discuss" is directly followed by the topic. You do not need "about" after it.

SPEAKING TIP: HOW TO ASK SOMEONE TO REPEAT SOMETHING
What should you say when you don't understand someone or cannot hear them clearly?
Instead of simply saying "What?", try these more natural and polite expressions:

Sorry, could you repeat that, please?

Would you mind saying that again?

Could you speak a little more slowly, please?

Sorry, I didn't quite catch that.

Remember: Asking someone to repeat something is perfectly natural. Don't hesitate to do so!

IDIOM OF THE DAY: ONCE IN A BLUE MOON

Meaning: Something that happens very rarely.

I eat fast food once in a blue moon.

My uncle visits us once in a blue moon.

Try using this idiom when talking about something that rarely happens.
